Foundation Course for Batch 2021-22

Place: IQ City Medical College

The new competency Based Curriculum was implemented under MCI directives from August 2019. The objective of implementing the Foundation Course of one-month duration at the beginning of the MBBS course was to sensitise the fresh medical students with essential knowledge and skills necessary to lay a sound foundation for their pursuit of learning across the subjects in MBBS course. The new CBME curriculum emphasizes achievement of clinical competencies by the Indian Medical Graduate, rather than just knowledge. As per current guidelines by NMC with COVID pandemic Medical education unit successfully conducted a foundation course in our college IQ City Medical College on 24/03/2022. The program started with the Inaugural program followed by Lamp Lighting and address by Honourable Dean Brig Prof. (Dr.) Gautam Ghose, followed by curriculum overview by Dean of Academics, Prof. (Dr.) Imon Paul. Day one sessions had orientation to college campus; rule and regulation and were conducted by Dean of Student Welfare, Prof. (Dr.) Arindom Banerjee. An interactive session about Role of doctor in society was conducted by MEU Coordinator Prof. (Dr.) Pansy Lyall. The Foundation course comprised of community orientation program by Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Kumar,  Head of the department of Community Medicine along with department of Paediatrics. The Students were introduced to national policies and immunization schedule. The Sessions on universal precautions and bio waste management was well conducted by department of microbiology under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Biswaroop Chatterjee.

The hands on training of first aid and Basic life support was conducted by team of emergency medicine and anaesthesiology department was appreciated and enjoyed by the new under graduates.

The students visited college skills lab. They were given hands on training on mannequins.  The concepts of history of Medicine, Professionalism and altruistic behaviour was conducted by head of departments of Medicine and Surgery Prof. (Dr.) Ajit Kovil and Prof. (Dr.) Pran Gopal Sarkar respectively.

The session about working as a health care team, importance of documentation, and communication skills were conducted in subsequent sessions. External faculties were invited to take special sessions on orientation to Bengali and English. The complete foundation course was spread over a period of 1 month long with regular classes.

The foundation course sessions were concluded successfully by Oath ceremony and white coat ceremony conducted on 6th of May 2022 by Principal of the institute in the presence of all dignitaries.
