About the library:

As a dynamic and integral part of the academic and scholarly enterprise, the medical Library of IQ City Medical College & Hospital, Durgapur is an essential component of the institute’s outstanding research and intellectual mission, to educate and nurture students, to create knowledge, and to provide service to the community and beyond. The Library occupies a place of pride in the college and seeks to provide high quality information services, instruction, and resources to our college clientele: the students, faculty, researchers, and staff of the college. It is a most lively place on the campus providing a safe and comfortable and friendly environment that enables learning and advancement of knowledge, and promoting discovery and scholarship. The library contains books more than 11,500, more than 100 journals (considering both national and international), over 300 back volumes (considering both national and international) and over 600 learning CDs.

Our Mission is to enable medical discovery by connecting people with knowledge. Through innovative means, we create, acquire, deliver and integrate information to support excellence in research, education, and patient care.

Vision:

The Medical Library exists to serve, support, and enhance the teaching, learning and research needs of the medical community by:

  • Delivering the highest quality information when, where, and in the form needed.
  • Contributing to the development of knowledge within the academic community.
  • Providing education to ensure effective use of information and information-gathering methodologies for lifelong learning.
  • Collaborating with educators, researchers and healthcare providers in planning and executing the information components of programs conducted by those groups.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of information technology and advances in hearth sciences informatics in order to improve the distribution of information.
  • Fostering the use of resources by alerting users to new products and actively promoting the full range of library services.
  • Encouraging interaction with clientele to determine priorities and evaluate programs.
  • Contributing to the scholarship of health sciences librarianship and informatics, and participate in University, professional and community activities.

Library is open 365 days.

Automation:

The library is fully automated with in-house developed software and barcode technology. An OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) has been created for easy search and two terminals are provided to facilitate access.

Apart from Central Library each department has separate Department Library which contains 100 – 110 books.

  • Document Delivery Service (Digital & Printer).
  • Open Access Facilities for Textual Documents.
  • Provision of Separate Reading rooms for Students and faculty members.

General Rules & Regulations:

  • All members should bring identity card and should be produced whenever it is required.
  • Personal books files, folders, folders, etc. (except scribbling pad is not allowed inside the library. Members have to deposit their personal belongings at the ‘Property Counter near the entrance.)
  • Make entry in the Library ‘Register while entering and leaving the library with time legibly.
  • Leave the books on the reading table while leaving the library and don’t reshelf them.
  • Personal books and notes can be read in the area exclusively allotted for it (Outside reading room).
  • Strict silence should be observed inside the library.
  • Using of Cell Phone, Head Phone inside the library is totally prohibited.
  • Underlining, overwriting, folding or any sort of damage to the books is strictly prohibited. If any such damage/marking is found, the member should pay penalty along with the cost of the books on the spot.
