Basic Course In Medical Education

IQ City Medical College, Durgapur hosted the Basic Course in Medical Education (BCME) from 13th to 15th October 2025, organised by its Medical Education Unit (MEU). The three-day residential programme was conducted under the aegis of the NMC Regional Centre ESI-PGIMSR & ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Joka — a testament to the institution's active engagement with national faculty development mandates.

The BCME is a flagship programme prescribed by the National Medical Commission (NMC) for all medical faculty, aimed at equipping teachers with contemporary skills in curriculum design, teaching methodology, and learner assessment. True to this spirit, the programme at IQ City Medical College brought together faculty members from across departments for an intensive, hands-on learning experience over three days, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm each day.

The event commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, where senior faculty and distinguished guests formally inaugurated the programme — a moment that set a warm and purposeful tone for the days ahead. Participants engaged in interactive workshops, small-group discussions, and structured sessions covering the foundations of medical education, competency-based teaching, feedback mechanisms, and effective assessment strategies. The learning environment was notably collaborative, with faculty members actively participating in group activities and practical exercises that could be directly applied in their classrooms and clinical settings.

The programme reflected IQ City Medical College's firm belief that excellence in medical education begins with well-trained educators. Investing in faculty development is as critical as investing in student learning — and the BCME is a cornerstone of that commitment.
